Lantern, an immersive installatory work exhibited at Poetics of Space, 2024, constructs an evocative, multi-sensory forest installation, where natural and mythic worlds intertwine. Drawing on French philosopher Gaston Bachelard’s analysis of intimate spaces, this installation uses shadow & light to create an immersive dreamscape inspired by ancient mythologies of the forest.
The installation invites visitors to wander through pathways of projected shadow, presenting the forest as a place of shelter and reflection. The piece features an immersive soundscape by musician Dragos Ungureanu, with recordings captured at the National Botanic Gardens, Dublin,. The rustle of forest leaves, the ebb of the tide, and the underfoot crunch of leaves—immerse the viewer further into the elemental atmospheres created by the work.
